Most mutual funds that bet on the strength or weakness of currencies suffered in recent months, including some stung by swings in the U.S. dollar, but many advisers still see them as a valuable alternative to stocks and bonds. In May and June combined, investors pulled $34.9 million more out of the 42 currency funds tracked by Lipper Inc. than they pulled in.
