Commodity markets are prone to bubbles, but like the ones in bathtubs, they don’t last. So concluded one of several interesting papers on commodity price fluctuations discussed at an International Monetary Fund seminar last week. Researchers at the University of Illinois examined agricultural futures price data from 1970-2011 and found a spate of bubbles running through multiple markets.
