The past year was not only eventful for the commodities market, but also remarkable because various agricultural commodities touched new highs. Considering the fundamentals, supply fears lingered largely due to poor rains in India during the first half of the monsoon, which not only reduced the sowing of kharif crops but also raised worries over the crop yield. Even the US was hit by its worst drought in 56 years, which parched the soybean and corn crops. However, the revival of monsoon in India during the second half of the season helped ease some pressure on sowing and yield.
