Seeders' Corner - Incubation process allows Mariner to prove the merits of a manager before seeding

Basil Williams Bracebridge Young, Jr. Mariner Investment Group, a $10bn alternative asset manager headquartered in New York, launched an incubation fund in April , called the Mariner Incubation Fund. It is a multi-strategy fund that is managed by investment talent selected from across the hedge fund industry. The managers in the fund oversee portfolios with initial investments ranging from $50m to $100m.

Eric Pellicciaro, who left BlackRock in November'12 where he was Head of Global Rates Investments, joined Mariner to manage a global macro portfolio called Alarium Mariner Global Macro LLC within the Mariner Incubation Fund. There are talks of the Alarium fund being launched as a stand-alone fund later. Then Richard Rumble, the former Head of Global Emerging Market Equity Prop Trading at Goldman Sachs, came in to run a global emerging market equity portfolio, called the Mariner INOX GEM, LLC. This month, Mariner hired its third manager: Peter van Dooijeweert, the former Head of Equity Relative Value Trading at Citigroup, will run a global equity volatility portfolio ......................
