Burren launches UCITS Fund in Dublin

Thursday, April 30, 2015
Opalesque Industry Update - Burren Capital Advisors Limited, a specialist event driven manager launched in 2010, has launched its Global Arbitrage equities fund on the MontLake UCITS platform, a leading independent platform for UCITS funds that provides investors with access to a range of liquid, transparent and regulated investment products domiciled on its platform in Dublin.

The MontLake Burren Global Arbitrage UCITS Fund will be managed in line with the core fund which has approximately 5 years track record but with a modest amount more leverage and will specialise in Pure Arbitrage, Tender Arbitrage, Merger Arbitrage and Relative Value investing. The strategies seek to take advantage of a broad investment spectrum providing multiple sources of alpha throughout the economic cycle.

The strategy pursues a best opportunities hard catalyst event driven investment approach specialising in global equity situations. The approach is highly disciplined and pursues opportunities that have a definite timeline and changing effect on a corporate structure. The strategy focuses on announced situations with cheap embedded optionality. The mandate is global to take advantage of best of breed opportunities in the US, Europe and Asia. A core principle of the strategy is liquid equity and derivatives markets matching the liquidity terms of the UCITS fund. The fund will follow a tried and tested investment strategy that has been executed successfully by the CIO over the past 15 years. A key differentiating factor is balancing the different risk profiles within each strategy to ensure low volatility of fund return while focusing on capital preservation.

Speaking today, Andrew McGrath, CIO and founder of Burren Capital Advisors Ltd, said: “We see significant interest from investors seeking access to event driven and equity arbitrage investing via a UCITS structure. The M&A market has come back with a vengeance this year, driven primarily by strength of corporate balance sheet, relatively easy access to cheap credit, general macro stability, fair valuations as well as confidence at Board level at taking strategic decisions to include pursing acquisitions and other forms of corporate restructuring. The MontLake Burren Global Arbitrage UCITS Fund will provide investors with exposure to a diversified portfolio of high-quality equity event driven, equity arbitrage and special situations opportunities globally, supported by strong fundamental analysis, first rate execution combined with a robust risk management framework.

“MontLake is a leading UCITS platform in the asset management industry with a top-quality range of funds and we are delighted to launch our UCITS fund on this highly regulated and versatile platform. We look forward to working with the ML Capital team on this exciting new venture” added McGrath.
