M-III launches, focuses on restructuring

Opalesque Industry Update - M-III Partners, LLC, an advisory and principal investment firm focused on underperforming companies, formally announced its launch today.

The new firm is comprised of a senior team of six professionals, each with over 20 years of direct experience in investment, management, operational improvement, mergers and acquisitions, and financial restructuring. They are led by founding partners, Mohsin (“Mo”) Y. Meghji and Suleman E. Lunat, two leading professionals in the special situations investing and the corporate turnaround business.

Mo Meghji, Managing Partner, is a nationally recognized turnaround professional with a 25-year career as a strategic planner, business operator, and investment advisor. Most recently, he was a member of senior management and head of strategy at Springleaf Holdings, LLC, a consumer finance company named one of the 20 “Best Turnarounds in Business” by Fortune. Mr. Meghji helped engineer a strategic repositioning that culminated in Springleaf’s initial public offering on the NYSE in October, 2013 and generated one of the highest returns for its principal investor, Fortress Investment Group, LLC. In 2002, Mr. Meghji co-founded Loughlin Meghji + Company, a financial and restructuring advisory firm, that went on to become one of the leading restructuring boutiques in the U.S. Previously, he spent 12 years with Arthur Andersen LLP in London, Toronto, and ultimately as a Partner in the Global Corporate Finance group in New York.

Suleman Lunat was Apollo Global Management. He managed a portfolio of special situation, performing, stressed, distressed, structured credit, and equity investments, in both the public and private markets. Prior to Apollo, Mr. Lunat held positions as Senior Investment Analyst at both Longacre Fund Management and Sandell Asset Management. Before joining Sandell, he was a Vice President at Greenhill & Co., focused on bankruptcy, restructuring, M&A, and principal investing.

Additional senior members of the advisory and principal investments teams include Edward (“Ned”) T. Cloonan, Senior Advisor, Christopher J. Pappano, Managing Director, Brian J. Griffith, Managing Director, and Thomas E. Pernsteiner, Managing Director.
