2 challenges face local bond market: S&P

Connecting itself to the regional bond market and Islamic finance internationalisation are two of the most immediate challenges to Malaysia’s bond market, said Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services (S&P) managing director and head of Asean Surinder Kathpalia (pix). “That’s where the next round of focus would be…The Malaysian bond market is very deep already,” he told reporters after the S&P Asean Capital Markets Seminar here on Friday.
“Malaysia needs more foreign issuers and foreign investors. Foreign investors are already there in the government securities market, but you need them to come into the corporate bond market.
