Islamic finance is as diverse as the world religion it is rooted in… But you wouldn’t know that from those sitting on Shari’ah boards. It’s easy to feel alone in a crowd. Attending Islamic finance conferences in this region, I often find myself the only woman, the only westerner and, in many cases, the token person under the age of 30. However, this isn’t a reflection of the industry, merely of those who tend to represent it.
