The scene today is pretty similar to the one experienced by investors in 2008 when the subprime crisis in the US markets sent global markets into a tizzy. Only this time it is not the US but the Euro Zone that is in grave danger of collapsing and while there are hectic efforts by major banks to lend much needed capital, the situation remains fluid.
The meeting on Dec 9 and the decisions taken on that day will determine the direction of the markets here on. In 2008, managed futures and advisory programs helped some savvy investors ride the tough time and come out of it with flying colors. Traditional investment strategies took a beating then and that is why when today the global markets have been faced with a similar situation, managed futures that make use of non correlated investment instruments should be looked at seriously by investors seeking portfolio protection.
