Commodity prices, credit crisis pin drove many agriculture stocks

From Chicagotribune.com: Falling commodity prices, combined with new fears that the credit crisis will hurt U.S. farmers, drove many agriculture-related stocks including those of Chicago-area companies –sharply lower.

Soaring grain prices sent the shares of seed-makers, agricultural-chemical producers, farm-equipment manufacturers and other ag-related companies sharply higher in the first half of 2008. But the once-sky high price for corn and other grains has weakened dramatically since peaking in July.
