Paul Singer’s hedge fund sues law firm Mossack Fonseca over alleged obstruction of justice

Paul Singer’s hedge fund NML Capital has sued the Nevada office of law firm Mossack Fonseca, which is at the center of the now infamous Panama Papers scandal, for alleged obstruction of justice, a report by the Center for Public Integrity said.

The law suit stemmed from the release in April of confidential emails as part of ICIJ’s investigation into the Panama Papers, allegedly showing that MF Nevada employee Patricia Amunategui committed perjury when she told a Nevada court in 2014 that MF Nevada was not a subsidiary or an alter ego of Mossack Fonseca.

Amunategui claimed then that MF Nevada was an "independent service provider" to the Panama firm.

However, lawyers for NML told the court that the emails have confirmed Amunategui was closely following instruction from Mossack Fonseca headquarters in Panama.

The lawyers told the court, "The emails demonstrate a much more insidious course of conduct intended to influence the entirety of these proceedings. "The evidence shows that Ms. Amunategui did not merely submit an ill-phrased or ill-informed declaration: she participated in efforts to destroy and remove evidence from this jurisdiction after she received NML’s subpoena."

But MF Nevada maintains it did not act in bad faith, saying that the denial of Amunategui about parent-subsidia......................
