Ex-Galloway manager launches emerging markets bond fund

Out of the emerging markets debt noise created by Argentina’s debt repayment drama and general fears of debt-related defaults due to the strong dollar, one fund manager has jumped shop to create a new emerging markets bond fund in what he says seems to be a great timing to invest.

Guillermo Bauder was the founding partner of Galloway Capital, a Brazil, Sao Paulo-based firm specialising in emerging market (EM) fixed income. He left the company in June 2015 after 10 years and founded Clarion Asset Management, also based in Sao Paulo. The Clarion Global Emerging Markets Bond Fund was launched in November and has returned 2.22% YTD.

"After many years of having founded and managed a EM fixed income boutique, it became time to make a change and step in a new direction. I detached myself from my previous firm and joined forces with a team of fixed income professionals as we saw the opportunity to launch an EM global fixed income fund with a unique investment proposal that I had never encountered before, offering an excellent risk vs. return and lower volatility in what seems to be a great timing to invest," he said in the announcement.
