An institutional advisor who does not use cookie-cutter approach for asset allocation

Delegates at the recent Opalesque Florida Roundtable discussed the approach to and of new managers. One, an institutional consultant, said he was open to all emerging managers so long as his institutional clients are. Two other delegates talked about the unrealistic expectations of new managers and the need for perseverance.

An advisor that talks to 'absolutely every manager’

Gustavo Bikkesbakker is manager at Meketa Investment Group, an institutional investment advisor with almost $400bn under advisement. The clients are large institutional US-based investors, half of which public pensions pensions, the other Taft-Hartley pension plans. The firm help clients with their asset allocation and manager selection, and has a strong focus on alternatives, especially in private markets, including private equity and private debt. He covers private equity managers in Latin America, which the firm has been investing in for six to seven years. "Essentially we have been monitoring the region since that entire private equity asset class began to develop in Latin America."
