“The decision to locate our hedge fund in Cayman was easy”

A hedge fund manager who recently set up his hedge fund shop in the Caymans says the jurisdiction made it really easy for him to get started.

Stefan Henning is the co-founder, Managing Director and Portfolio Manager of balmoREAL Capital SEZC Ltd., a Cayman-based hedge fund manager that launched its first fund in September 2014. The fund is a value focused, market neutral, long-short equity strategy that invests exclusively in publicly listed U.S. REITs.

His firm is a real life example of the recent developments in the world of alternative investments on the Cayman Islands, he said during the recent Opalesque Caymans Roundtable.

Several years ago, he started to research locations to set up his hedge fund operations and was impressed by the professional business environment in the Cayman Islands – especially in the Special Economic Zone (CEC). So he chose Cayman over New York or London, and says that without the recent development of Cayman Enterprise City, he would not be here today.

"It seems only few people in the hedge fund industry are aware of the Cayman Islands efforts to attract hedge fund managers by creating an amazingly business friendly environment along with political stability and a top notch infrastructure," he ......................
