Benedicte Gravrand, Opalesque Geneva:

Andrew Rozanov, managing director and head of sovereign advisory at Permal, left the firm this week. The departure was confirmed by Alastair Crabbe, a Permal spokesman.

He joined Permal Investment Management, a $22bn global alternative asset manager, in July 2010 after several years in a similar role at State Street. He coined the term "sovereign wealth funds" in a paper in 2005 (entitled, "Who holds the wealth of nations?" in the Central Banking Journal) and edited a book on global macro investing last year (see book review below).

"After four great years, the time has come to move on and to look for new challenges and opportunities," he said in an email announcement. "In the immediate future, I will be taking some time off, and working on a couple of research projects."

Mr. Rozanov holds a master’s degree in oriental studies from Moscow University. He studied and worked in Japan for 20 years and is fluent in English, Russian and Japanese.
