During the latest Opalesque South Africa Roundtable (Cape Town, Dec-2010), Ian Hamilton, CEO of Investment Data Services Group (IDS), a South African fund administration group with $6bn in AuA, talked about the Lions of Africa, not a football team but a Cayman-based platform of investments into Africa. He also mentioned a soon-to-be launched Malta-based platform called the Knights of Malta, which would have significant African interests as well. Opalesque recently talked to Andrew Frankish, director of IDS Fund Services Malta Ltd, to know more about this new platform.
Mirror funds bias
The Knights of Malta Investments Funds SICAV plc is an open-ended umbrella fund platform established to provide investment managers a cost-effective way of running their funds. A sub-fund on the platform can be created for around Eur8,000 (around US$10,900) plus additional hosting and administration fees - compared to the typical cost of $40,000 or more to set up a stand-alone vehicle.
