In the Latin American region, “when it comes down to the equities market, there are really only a few key countries to invest in,” hedge fund manager Fernando Jasnis told Matthias Knab during a recent Opalesque TV interview. Six of them to be exact: Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Peru and Columbia. “It is mainly a function of the development of the capital markets and the depth and liquidity,” he added.
Fernando Jasnis manages a multi-strategy hedge fund from Explorador Capital’s offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Explorador Capital Management, LLC has other offices in San Francisco, Sao Paulo, and Santiago in Chile.
The company believes that Latin America is undergoing dramatic changes, rising growth, prosperity and living standards, thanks chiefly to high commodity prices, the industrialisation of China and India, a low interest rates environment, the consolidation of democracy, and the expansion of democratic capitalism. Real estate is a “hot area” due to more available credit, and so are healthcare and education.
