Newly formed Nautical Capital launches absolute return commodity strategies

Monday, February 08, 2010

From the Opalesque team:

New York-based Nautical Capital, which launched in December 2009, has already set the bar high for success, hoping to eventually become the investment name synonymous with commodities investing. "When you think of equities, you think of Fidelity, when you think of fixed income you think of PIMCO and when you think of commodities we want investors to think of Nautical Capital Management," said CEO David Henritze, in an announcement about launch of the firm's absolute return commodity strategies.

In addition to Henritze, (who was previously SVP of Derivatives Products at Fimat USA and the Founder of Refco), the senior management team includes CIO Ryan Carrier (formerly Director of Commodity Investor Products at Macquarie), and Chief Risk Officer, Raymond T. Murphy (developer of the Active Commodity Indices the firm lists as a product and formerly a fund manager at Graham Capital).

The newly launched absolute return strategies cover both discretionary and systematic approaches. Building towards the firm's goal of a robust product suite that will offer multiple commodities-focused options for institutional investors, future rollouts of additional products are already in the pipeline. The team has raised $20m for the launch of two ETFs, which will cover crude oil and natural gas and are expected to launch in the Spring of 2010. - kb -......................
